There is no doubt that the City and Province will be able to secure a better deal on the redevelopment--with greater civic amenities, better design, and more appropriate height and density--if the bidding takes place after the peak of Olympic venue construction and the residential real estate slowdown takes hold.
Clearing the site three years before the first "planned" construction activities take place puts another 600-bed burden on the Vancouver housing marketplace, and leaves an empty scar in the neighbourhood for years longer than necessary.
